Linguistics 158: Computer-aided methods in linguistics
John B. Lowe /
Department of Linguistics
University of California, Berkeley - Spring 1997
Assignment 9 : Encoding
(due: Th 24 Apr , 1997)
Preferred version:
- Write/Rewrite your final project abstract and some of the major pieces in ACL format for possible submission using LaTex and the Association for Computational Linguistic's style sheet.
- Your document should flesh out" your project a bit, including:
- An abstract.
- An introduction or overview in which you mention some previous related research.
- A methodology section, in which you state how you are going to carry out your project. This should describe (briefly) the hardware and software environment you are working in.
- A results section, probably pretty empty right now, in which you discuss how things turned out. I suggest you write a couple of sentences about what you expect the results to be and why.
- Appendices listing the raw data (if feasible and appropriate), any source code you have written or used and would be willing to share,
- A bibliography. This does not have to be in ACL format (i.e. you don't have to learn BibTeX right now!)
- The document should be at least three pages long; this is a lot of text when typeset!
- You may use either OzTeX for the Mac (from Cornucopia), or LaTeX on any friendly UNIX system.
- Submit a printout of the output.
- Place the source text on the Lx158 server, using the naming conventions we established earlier in the semester.
Help for Latex
Also possible:
- Make PowerPoint slides showing what your proposal is about.
- Make at least 10 slides (including a title slide).
- Submit a printout of your slides.
- Place the Powerpoint file on the Lx158 server, using the naming conventions we established earlier in the semester.
- Expect to use these slides in your class presentation.
